Old Virginia

Back in March my mother, sister and I ventured to Lynchburg, Virginia to attend a The Waltons reunion/convention.
For those of you who have never heard of the show, it is an old school series that ran in the 1970s about a family living in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains during the Depression era. My family loves the old fashion values and charm that The Waltons portrays, so when we discovered that the cast of the show were coming together convention-style for a reunion, we were in.

On our first day in Virginia, the convention took us on a trip to Schuyler, the home of Earl Hamner, the man behind The Waltons. Our first stop was Hamner's childhood home.
As you can see, the home has been updated to modern times. Thanks to the decor, the antique charm was still present.
The cast of The Waltons.
The famous lunchbox.
Earl Hamner's desk where he wrote many of his first stories.

Right down the hill from the house was a gift shop meant to emulate the country store on the show.
We may have picked up a few souvenirs for ourselves.
Right next to the store was the church the Hamners attended. It is still in operation and oh so cute, though we were not allowed to go inside.
Our next top was a small hike up the hill to The Waltons museum. With so much to see there, I felt it deserves its own post.

With love,
Emilie
